Life opens up for Alf
Alf Booth lives with his wife Una in Derbyshire. He did his National Service in the RAF from 1948-1950, as an Aircraftman in catering, and was used to being active and self-reliant. However, at the age of 78, he has lost both his legs to diabetes and his world had shrunk dramatically after his Primary Care Trust told him that he did not meet the criteria for an NHS electric wheelchair. Speaking in December 2008, Alf said, "I have only been out of the house once since July."
We were therefore delighted to be able to buy Alf a dual purpose wheelchair that he can use independently, or which can be pushed by Una, to give maximum flexibility. "This is the perfect Christmas present," said Alf. "It will make so many changes to my life."
