David Brayshaw, of Castleford in West Yorkshire, served in the RAF from 1990 to 1997 as a Senior Aircraftsman. In 2004, he and his wife Anita had a son, Jack, who was born severely disabled. Jack is registered blind; however he does have some vision. Doctors advised the family to keep Jack stimulated to improve his eyesight and it was at this point that the Brayshaws approached the RAF Benevolent Fund for assistance in buying a bubble tube.
We were glad to help and bought Jack, now five, the bubble tube the family had in mind. We were also able to buy David and Anita an ultra-violet light which studies have shown to be stimulating for the visually impaired.
The sensory equipment has greatly improved Jack’s vision. Anita said:
"We've seen a big improvement in Jack. If you put things near to him now he is able to focus upon them. We’re so grateful to the RAFBF."
