Care fees

In 2008 we helped older and disabled members of the RAF family to retain their independence at home through awards for domiciliary care totalling £1.5m made to 531 beneficiaries. We also paid top-up fees for local authority funded long term care to 310 beneficiaries, totalling £730k.

Care for older and disabled people is provided by the social services that are run by your local authority.

We understand that the rules governing the care you are entitled to receive from social services can seem complex, especially when they are unfamiliar.

If you are seeking long term care, whether in your own home, sheltered housing or a residential nursing home, our first step is to assist you in getting the help to which you're entitled. We offer free advice and advocacy to all members of the RAF family, by telephone or email, on the help you can access through your local social services.

You can also find out more about your entitlements through information provided by other organisations:

See our factsheets for more detailed contact lists.

We have details of many more organisations that may be able to help, if you contact our advice and advocacy service. Our experienced team will be able to direct you to the most relevant information.

There are limits to the care that can be provided by your local authority. In these situations, after your social services care entitlements have been explored, we may be able to offer you additional assistance with long term care.

We believe you should have choice in how and where you are cared for, so we can offer

If you find it difficult to find a place in a care home, we are sometimes able to nominate you for a place we've reserved in a private care home - see Factsheet A - Care homes where the RAF Benevolent Fund has nomination rights.
