Living in your own home may become a challenge if you, your partner or a dependant have a serious illness, a disability or become increasingly infirm.
Social Services give grants to pay for alterations to your house in these situations. The grant they give depends on a report from their occupational therapist and an assessment of your financial situation. You can find out more about help from Social Services on the Directgov website.
Sometimes grants from Social Services are not available or do not cover the full cost of the work that needs to be done on your house. When this happens, we can make our own assessment and consider you for a grant. We make grants for a wide range of different adaptations that improve accessiblity and safety such as:
- Widening doors and installing ramps for wheelchair access
- Installing stair lifts
- Altering bathrooms
- Extending ground floor facilities
