Research reports

We are here for every member of the RAF Family in need. To enable this, we carry out and commission research to produce up-to-date insights into the size, shape and needs of the RAF Family. This helps us and others to make decisions based on evidence and understanding, so that we can have the greatest possible impact.

Please find below our key publications, with the most recent at the top. If you would like more information on any of these or our research more generally, please email us at research@rafbf.org.uk.

Gambling and Wellbeing Research

Our report Gambling and Wellbeing in the RAF is the first research to look exclusively at the extent of gambling as an issue among serving RAF personnel, as well as other related health and wellbeing issues such as alcohol use and mental health. The report also explores how members of the RAF community can be better supported. For the first time, it sheds a detailed light on gambling and associated wellbeing issues within a single service.

This research explores gambling behaviours among serving personnel as well as determining the frequency and severity of gambling problems among the serving RAF community. We have an opportunity to address the issue now among serving personnel, before any gambling problems they may have get worse.

If you need our help and support, please contact us via email at welfarenavigators@rafbf.org.uk or via our online form on our website rafbf.org or by calling our helpline on 0300 102 1919.

Growing up in the RAF

The report focusses on children who have one or both parents in the RAF and looks at their experiences living as part of a service family. Download the report:
