RAF Waddington Airplay hosts Relay challenge to raise money for Fund

On 22 June, RAF Waddington’s Airplay took part in the Airplay Relay challenge to raise money for the Fund.

The event was shared across station with 28 participants on the day from RAF Waddington and RAF Scampton.

Airplay is the Fund’s flagship youth programme, delivered by One YMCA, across 24 RAF stations. Airplay provides an invaluable service designed to address the unique challenges faced by RAF families, by giving children and young people access to a safe, stimulating programme of activities and some much-needed continuity if and when their family relocates.

Airplay Youth Clubs have been involved in the Airplay Relay event competing across Stations since April, when the first challenge took place at RAF Brize Norton.

The event saw the participants compete by walking, running and on scooters, bikes, skateboards to reach their 116-mile target. The group excelled their target reaching 183 miles in total.

One family taking part cycled 54 miles altogether and an Airplay attendee’s father ran 33 miles for the challenge. Another family took part in the challenge from their holiday in Orlando, Florida.

The Airplay young people raised £50 at the event which, combined with Scampton’s fundraising efforts at their last bingo event, has brought the total raised to over £270.

Airplay attendees received personalised Airplay medals for their efforts in the challenge.
