The RAF Benevolent Fund has partnered with the Joint Services Parachute Centre RAF Weston-on-the-Green (JSPCW), responsible for military parachute adventurous training across the tri-services, to increase awareness of the Fund’s support.
Every year, over 1,000 personnel complete training at the JSPCW for static line and more advanced freefall parachuting courses. They also offer a static line short course under the RAF’s Eagle Scheme, which encourages adventurous training to help improve mental health and wellbeing.
Over the years, the Fund has supported serving personnel who have completed courses with JSPCW. In recognition of this, the Centre has opened its doors to raise funds and awareness of the Fund within the RAF community.
The JSPCW will be briefing those who join their courses about the Fund’s welfare offer and membership of the Dependent’s Fund, with further information available from a branded stall within the student’s recreation area.
Each student will be offered the opportunity to enter a raffle with the lucky winner awarded the opportunity to undertake a tandem parachute jump with one of the Centre’s trained instructors on their final day of training.
Neil Tomlin, Area Director (South) at the Fund said: “We are delighted to be working so closely with the JSPCW in this collaborative venture, which will see our welfare services being reintroduced to new RAF audiences. We are extremely grateful to the team for their fundraising endeavours which will help us to continue our vital work to support to the RAF Family, wherever and whenever they need us.”
This month, the Centre hosted their first raffle raising £102 for the Fund. A further donation of £100 was made from a visiting Army Warrant Officer who was moved by the presentation about the support the Fund provides.
