Now in its 51st year, the world-famous Beaujolais Run once again travelled across France to be among the first to sample the latest Beaujolais Nouveau and raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

The historic event originally began as a race to return the first bottles of the newly-released wine to the UK, with the RAF holding the record having used a Harrier Jump Jet, but has since evolved into a unique, week-long lifestyle event, combining motoring navigational challenges with tastings at some of the finest vineyards across Champagne, Burgundy and beyond.

'Runners' from across the country experienced a motoring event like no other, with new venues and experiences added each year to entertain and educate old and new participants alike while simultaneously raising money for the Fund.

The event has supported the RAF Benevolent Fund since 2017 and raises thousands each year as each car team competes to raise the most funds for the RAF Family.

This year'’s event, themed as 'Top Run' was launched from RAF Marham, in Norfolk, where the teams were hosted at its aviation Heritage Centre, before travelling back in time to the era of Tornado operations from deep within the Station's Hardened Aircraft Shelters of the Cold War era.

A privileged tour of the Stations latest F35 aircraft facility and a personal tour of the Squadron's facilities and aircraft followed where 'Runners' were able to see first-hand the 5th Generation aircraft and meet members of the Squadron who operate the aircraft.

A final pitstop in the Officers' Mess saw the 'Runners' off on their way to France.

RAF Benevolent Fund Area Director, Neil Tomlin, who helped organise the event and took part this year, said: "We were delighted that the Beaujolais Run chose to support us again this year and are very proud of our relationship with this unique event which not only raises vital funds to help us support the RAF Family, but also highlights to all those involved how the Benevolent Fund supports both the serving personnel and families of the RAF, and the veterans who reach out to us for support.

"Whether for emotional, practical or financial help, the Benevolent Fund is there to support the whole of the RAF Family whenever they need us.

"Since choosing the Benevolent Fund as their charity, the Beaujolais Run has raised tens of thousands of pounds helping us to support those in need and 'Runners' have become firm advocates of the RAF. We are immensely grateful for their continued enthusiasm and support."
