In a joint project between the Royal Air Force, Caterham, Mission Motorsport and the RAF Benevolent Fund, the unique car was auctioned in September via the classic car auction site Collecting Cars to raise money for the two charities.

On 10 October, the special-edition car was presented to the winning bidder at Thruxton Race Circuit, Hampshire.

The Caterham Seven 360R was built using the skin, interior and other components from a Puma HC2 helicopter that had come to the end of its service life.

A team of serving personnel at RAF Benson worked with Caterham to build the car as a tribute to the servicemen and women the Puma protected, and the lives saved by this unsung hero of the military.

Neil Tomlin, Area Director for South England and South Wales at the RAF Benevolent Fund said: “We were delighted to work with the Royal Air Force and Caterham Car Company on this exciting project with our charity partners, Mission Motorsport. The car showcased the engineering excellence of those who took part building the truly unique Caterham while simultaneously raising awareness of both charities supporting serving and retired military personnel and their families.

“We are incredibly grateful for the donation to the Fund through the sale of this outstanding car which helps ensure that no member of the RAF Family will ever have to face adversity alone.”
