On Saturday 2 September, 111 adults and 31 children took part in the Ulster 5K and 1.5K Children’s race held at the Coleraine campus of Ulster University.

The event was launched by Olympic gold medallist Lady Mary Peters who encouraged people in Northern Ireland to "get up and go". The event raised almost £1,500 for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Northern Irish former athlete, Lady Mary, commented on the launch saying: "The aim of the event is to encourage as many people as possible to be active and embrace the wonderful community spirit of the day. It doesn’t matter if you are a regular runner, a first-time runner or simply enjoy walking with a friend, children, or the dog, all are welcome to participate in this inclusive and friendly event, while at the same time supporting the RAF Benevolent Fund."

Event organiser and Fund volunteer Julie Corbett was thrilled with the number of people who took part and with the amount raised for the Fund. She said: "It was fantastic to see so many people running and walking – some even had their dogs – in aid of the Fund.

"I'm grateful to them all for supporting the event. We raised an amazing £1,500, all of which goes to help RAF veterans, serving personnel and their families in Northern Ireland. I would like to sincerely thank the local businesses and organisations who sponsored the event and the spot prizes, and Ulster University for allowing us to use their wonderful facilities."

All entrants received a bespoke medal, with podium prizes for men and women, together with many spot prizes throughout the event. Refreshments were provided by Fund volunteers for all participants.
