Family of Squadron Leader Ken Aedy publish pilot's memoirs in honour of his memory

On Wednesday night, the Fund was delighted to attend the launch of new book, From Biplanes to Fast jets: a pilot’s life in the Royal Air Force 1942-1973.
With an introduction from Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston, the book is a fascinating account of the late Squadron Leader Ken Aedy’s RAF service, from joining aged 18 (having had his medical in the Long Room at Lord’s Cricket Ground), the transition from going solo in a Tiger Moth and being trained in Oklahoma in 1943 before transferring to heavy bombers operational over Germany, participating in Operation MANNA, flying home Prisoners of War after the Second World War, and his subsequent postings thereafter in Egypt, Singapore and Cyprus and various stations in the UK.
Mark Aedy and Lady Penny Willcocks, Ken’s son and daughter, have dedicated the last two years to putting together Ken’s memoirs and the event date held a very special significance as it would have been Ken’s 100th birthday.
Proceeds from the event and book sales are being generously donated to the Fund, for which we are hugely grateful.
