HRH The Duke of Kent visits the Fund

Published:

On 11 June 2024, His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent visited our headquarters in London to attend our annual Council Advisory Meeting.

HRH The Duke of Kent, who has been President of the RAF Benevolent Fund since 1969, received updates on the breadth and depth of support provided by the Fund as well as current people matters and operational commitments in the Royal Air Force. His presence at the Council Meeting follows in the footsteps of his late mother, Princess Marina, who attended the 13 May 1959 Council Meeting in her capacity as President of the Fund.

The Duke of Kent is a tireless advocate of the Fund and has hosted events on the charity’s behalf, including a special reception on 23 October 2019 to mark the Fund’s 100-year anniversary at St James’ Palace. He also attended the Fund’s private Trenchard Memorial Service at Westminster Abbey in February 2022. His Royal Highness’ late mother Princess Marina was President of the Fund between 1943-68, and his late father, Prince George, the then Duke of Kent, was Chair of the charity between 1941-42.  Prince George died in a wartime flying accident in Scotland in August 1942 while on active service with the Royal Air Force.

Chris, our Controller, said: "It was an honour to host HRH The Duke of Kent and to introduce him to members of the Fund’s team before he joined the Council Advisory Meeting, where we shared the Fund’s impact in 2023 in support of the RAF Family.

As our President for over 55 years, he has provided unwavering support for the vital services and assistance we provide to tens of thousands of serving and former members of the Royal Air Force, our bereaved community, and families.  We are extremely grateful for the life-long commitment of His Royal Highness and his family."

His Royal Highness met individuals from all 4 Directorates.  Council members in attendance included Lord Trenchard, 3rd Viscount Trenchard and Air Marshal Paul Lloyd, Deputy Chair of the Air Staff who provided an update on RAF people matters and operations.
