To mark Month of the Military Child this April, we spoke to sisters Isla and Siobhan Bennett, two shortlisted nominees for the Fund’s Young Supporter of the Year Award, about their volunteering efforts for Airplay and what the award nomination means to them.
When did you join Airplay and how has it supported you since you joined?
We started Airplay in summer 2019; Airplay has been somewhere we can use as an escape from school and somewhere we know we can get support and help if we need to. It’s also a place where we can have fun and enjoy ourselves.
Why did you decide to volunteer at Ben Club?
We decided to volunteer at Ben club because we knew it would give us so many skills and we could help the children enjoy Ben club as much as we enjoy Airplay Seniors.
What has been the highlight of your time volunteering at Ben Club?
Our highlights from volunteering at Ben Club are the parties we’ve hosted for the young people at Halloween, Easter, Christmas, and summer. This is because we love seeing the children have fun, dance to music, and enjoy themselves.
Why is it important to you to give back to the RAF Benevolent Fund?
It is so important to give back to the Fund because it helps so many people access help and support and helps people live life to the fullest, even in the hardest of circumstances. The Fund helps people who are willing to give their lives for our country to get the support they rightly deserve.
What does it mean to you to be nominated for the Fund’s Young Supporter of the year?
It means the world to us to be nominated and we are incredibly grateful for the recognition from the RAF Benevolent Fund.
