RAF Benevolent Fund delighted to be championed by RAF Scampton

A great start to 2021 sees the RAF Benevolent Fund chosen as one of RAF Scampton's chosen charities for the year.

Wing Commander Neill Atkins, Station Commander at RAF Scampton, has announced that the Fund, alongside the Jon Egging Trust and Lincoln Foodbank, has been chosen as the station’s charity

Last year alone the RAF Benevolent Fund spent more than £50,000 supporting RAF Scampton and its personnel. From the new all-day café and yoga sessions, to COVID-19 welfare packs and mindfulness app Headspace, the funding has allowed RAF personnel and their families to endure a challenging year.

Wg Cdr Atkins said: "We're delighted to support three meaningful charities. To give something back to the RAF Benevolent Fund is something that is vitally important to me and those on station.

"The support they have shown us over the years, and continue to demonstrate despite our forthcoming closure, goes far in illustrating how dedicated they are to supporting the RAF Family whenever and wherever they can.

"This year will be challenging for all of us. These charities do an important job caring for the health and wellbeing of thousands of individuals, so to be able to raise money for them means that together we can change lives for the better."

Aaron Tillyer, Regional Fundraiser for the RAF Benevolent Fund, added: "On behalf of everyone at the Fund I am sincerely grateful to RAF Scampton for supporting us this year. The Covid-19 pandemic has affected fundraising income, so this support will make a world of difference.

"As the RAF's oldest friend, relationships like this allow us to continue supporting those who need it most and stand side by side with them through life's highs and lows. We’ve worked closely with the station for many years and look forward to seeing what we can achieve together in the coming months."

RAF Scampton is home to the Red Arrows and plays an important role in the protection of UK airspace as the home of No. 1 Air Control Centre.
