In tribute to Les Munro

The RAF Benevolent Fund is saddened to hear of the death of Les Munro, the last surviving Dambusters pilot.

He said at the time: "I am content that I have achieved my goal of doing all I can to ensure that the men of Bomber Command who lost their lives during the Second World War will be remembered with pride for generations to come."

His medals are now on display at the Museum of Transport and Technology in his native New Zealand.

RAF Benevolent Fund Controller Air Marshal Chris Nickols said: "We are very saddened to hear of Les Munro's passing. From his days in Bomber Command and the Dambusters to his generous support of the Bomber Command Memorial earlier this year, he was brave, selfless, and inspiring. The RAF family has lost one of its finest ever airmen and we send our condolences to the Munro family."
