RAF Benevolent Fund Welfare Benefits Advisor Jen Kelly outlines some of the key welfare benefit changes announced in last month's Budget, which may affect the RAF Family.

State Pension and benefit rates to increase

In April 2023 State Pension and benefit rates will increase by 10.1%.

The Government has published its proposed State Pension and benefit rates for 2023, and you can see these here

Benefit cap to increase

In April 2023 the yearly benefit cap is also increasing by 10.1%. This will be the first time the cap has been raised since it was introduced in 2013.

In London: for single adults the cap will increase from £15,410 to £16,967; for couples and lone parents the cap will increase from £23,000 to £25,323.

Outside London: for single adults the cap will increase from £13,400 to £14,753; for couples and lone parents the cap will increase from £20,000 to £22,020.

Cost of living payments extended

Cost of living payments have been extended to 2023. The extended package of support includes:

•    £900 paid in instalments to those in receipt of means-tested benefits
•    £300 paid to pensioners
•    £150 paid to people in receipt of disability benefits.

It is a good idea to make sure you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to, so that you can get these payments if you are eligible for them. Give us a call on 0300 102 1919 or email advice@rafbf.org.uk and we can run a benefit check for you.
