Youngsters have fun whatever the weather!

Airplay members at RAF Wyton are the latest to tell us what Airplay means to them and what they have been getting up to.

As the seasons have changed at RAF Wyton Airplay, young people have benefited from enriching experiences, relaxing with friends and having fun, whilst learning about each other, in an encouraging and welcoming environment. The club entertains Ben Club, Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors, and here's what we've been up to recently.

We are so proud of how our young people are developing as individuals and together. A special commendation, and a huge thank you goes out to Kassie, our young leader, who has been recognised with an award for all of the devoted voluntary work she does for RAF Wyton Airplay.

Three times a week Kassie gives up her evening to help and support our young people. She is such a positive role model and has developed so much as a mentor and as a person.

The summer months saw the children enjoy the warm weather in the garden scoring goals, playing on pogo sticks and playing catch the flag – along with many legendary water fights. Our new youth support worker, Jason, devised multiple sports tournaments – ranging from football tournaments to ultimate frisbee tournaments. Summer trips included a visit to Skegness and a sleepover at the aquarium, a trip to the aqua park, Airfest and paintballing.

We focussed on tackling peer pressure with drama games, which featured trust, acceptance and every young person being able to truly be themselves at Airplay. Three of our intermediates also composed a dance routine to music, as part of the music project.

Autumn kicked off with Halloween and we carved pumpkins, made vegetable people and played plenty of games. Winter hit and for Remembrance Day, children from all groups make poppies out of plastic bottles, which were painted and displayed outside the Airplay building. Some of our seniors painted a soldier on the front of the building, captioned 'Lest we forget', to show the respects of the RAF and military communities.

We wrapped up the year with plenty of Christmas celebrations. The entire building was decorated and our tree was adorned, whilst the children had a Christmas party, including a Secret Santa.

In 2020, RAF Wyton Airplay is delighted to have gained the use of another building for Ben Club members. Plans for the year include a World Book Day celebration and a session on confidence and body image.

One junior member recently wrote in a letter to staff: "You have made this day the most brilliant day ever. Thank you for all that you do to make this place special for us."

The aim of RAF Wyton Airplay is to make every session the most brilliant it can be, whatever the season, whatever the weather.
