During this period of Remembrance, Fund beneficiary Stewart Marshall pays tribute to his wife Debra and credits the Fund for support when his life fell apart.
Remembrance is a poignant time for members of our RAF Family, as we commemorate the men and women who fought for our freedom. For many, memories of lost loved ones will be at the forefront of their minds during this reflective period.
Over 30 years ago, whilst having a drink in his local pub, Stewart met the love of his life, Debra, who was serving in the RAF at the time. Stewart and Debra shared a great fondness and passion for the Royal Air Force and were extremely proud to be part of the RAF Family. The couple looked forward to their future together raising their two daughters.

In 2023, Stewart’s world was turned upside down. Having fallen unwell during the Christmas period, Debra was delivered the news that she had been diagnosed with cancer.
Due to an acceleration in her condition caused by a lung infection, Debra suddenly passed away on 19 February 2024.
Bereft by the loss, and struggling with depression, Stewart reached out to the Fund for emotional support to help him through this challenging time.
Stewart was provided with support through our Listening and Counselling Service, including regular check-up calls which has helped him slowly put his life back together.
Stewart said: "Without the RAF Benevolent Fund, I very much doubt that I would be here; they helped me with my grief and so much more. I owe everything to them.”
